AWARENESS

- Review the Snowshoe Bike Park trail system before you ride.
- Review the trail signs and understand their meanings before you ride.
- Understand that trail difficulty ratings and symbols are specific to Snowshoe Bike Park.
- Trails or lifts may temporarily close due to weather, special events, construction, maintenance, or trail conditions. Check the daily trail report at The Mountain Adventure Center (The MAC) or The Depot for updated information.
- All trails within the Snowshoe Bike Park are for downhill biking only. No uphill traffic is permitted.
- Trail features vary in size and difficulty. Pay attention to signage.
- Terrain and features change due to weather, maintenance, usage, modification, and time of day.
- Do not use trails or features if you lack sufficient ability and/or experience. Cautiously walk your bike if you feel you are on a trail or feature beyond your skill level.
- You may encounter authorized and unauthorized motor vehicles, trail work crews, and construction areas within the bike park. It is your responsibility to yield.
- Some trails do not receive constant maintenance. Report any obstacles or hazards to patrol or a Snowshoe employee.
- Please stay on designated trails.
- Observe all posted signs and closures.
- The Western Territory does not feature a top-to-bottom "easiest" trail.

RESPONSIBILITY CODE

- Ride under control and within your ability so you can stop or avoid other people and objects.
- Stay on marked trails. Avoid all closed trails and areas.
- Read and obey all signs and warnings.
- Inspect trails and features before attempting them.
- Only stop where you do not obstruct trails and remain visible to other riders.
- Stop and look both ways before crossing roads.
- Riders ahead of you have the right of way. You must avoid them.
- When passing other riders, slow down or stop as necessary. Anticipate others at corners and blind spots. Slower riders should yield to faster riders as soon as it is safe.
- When entering a trail or starting your descent, look uphill and yield to other riders.
- You must wear a helmet while riding on Snowshoe Mountain trails.
- If you are involved in, or witness a collision or accident, contact patrol or a Snowshoe employee.
- If you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, do not enter the Snowshoe Bike Park or use the chairlift.
- You must be able to safely load, ride, and unload the chairlift.
- Only ride trails and features within your ability.
- Maintain your equipment and ensure it works properly before riding.
- Respect Snowshoe Mountain, its employees, other guests, and property.
BIKE RENTALS
- You can rent bikes at The Mountain Adventure Center (The MAC).
- Rentals include full-face helmets, chest and arm protectors, and knee and shin protectors.
- If you have your own bike, you may rent gear onsite.
- Lessons require a full-suspension downhill or enduro bike.
- The MAC is also the main mountain bike retailer where you can purchase much of the recommended riding gear.

EYE PROTECTION
Glasses or goggles with clear lenses (yellow and light amber also work well) are best for trail riding.

GLOVES
Wear full-fingered, flexible gloves with non-padded palms while riding. Gardening gloves also work as a substitute. Unlike road riding gloves, where the point is to pad the palms, downhill and freeride gloves feature thin palms to ensure a firm grip and full fingers to protect the skin.

PANTS
Wear baggie shorts or moto pants. Jeans also suffice so long as free movement. Many riders wear padded cycling shorts under their outer layer. Shorts or pants made of thin fabric (i.e. basketball shorts) provide little protection. This is also true of cycling shorts worn without an additional layer on top.

SHIRT OR JERSEY
Jersey or tee shirts work well. Most people don't like the feel of body armor next to their skin (it's plastic and can be uncomfortable), so we recommend a tee shirt or tank top underneath.

SHOES
Skate-style, tennis, or laced flat-bottomed shoes work best with bike pedals. Avoid hiking or work boots as the soles won't grip well, especially in wet conditions. While riding in the bike park, sandals or water shoes are prohibited.

SOCKS
Wear whatever socks work best with your shoes. Keep in mind, shin guards can be uncomfortable on the skin, especially just above the ankle. Some people wear higher socks for that reason. Socks can also get wet, so wicking material works well.
