We are situated in rural West Virginia in Pocahontas County. We are a little remote from some of the every day amenities, however we think that only adds to the resorts charm and strong community. With proper planning and slight adjustments to what may be your normal routine, it is easy to make Snowshoe home.
Sure thing! Even though we are located in rural West Virginia there is quite a bit to do in the area, especially if you enjoy getting outside. See below for just a few of our favorites.

- To our south is Marlinton and to our north is Elkins. Both are cute towns with some local WV charm and a host of activities.
- We are also located close to the Highland Scenic Highway which is abundant in trails and great mountain views.
- We are lucky to have the Greenbrier River basically a hop, skip, and jump away and there is a river trail great for bike riding that runs from Cass, WV down to Lewisburg, WV.
- There are also a number of State and National Forests in the area that all have their own claim to fame.
We are lucky to have a number of resources right at our finger tips.

1. Pocahontas Memorial Hospital Clinic - During our winter and summer seasons our local hospital staff has an on-mountain clinic should you get sick, need to see a primary care physician or need a prescription.
2. Mountain Transit Authority (MTA) - MTA is a third-party transportation service that has routes throughout some of our neighboring counties. More information.
3. St. Bernard Chapel - Our on-site Chapel offers both Catholic and Protestant services.
4. Wildcat Market - We have a small market on the mountain that covers most of your basic needs and is a great option for anything you may have forgotten on a grocery trip.
5. On-Mountain Transportation - During our winter season we have complimentary shuttles that help to get you around the mountain. During the summer season, we operate shuttles on an on-call basis.
6. There is also a third-party grocery delivery service available should you get snowed in, or just want to use the convenience of delivery. Stop by the HR office to learn more.
A few helpful tidbits that may be useful as you get ready to head this way to start your season at Snowshoe:

- We are located in the mountains and there is no direct interstate that swings by Snowshoe. Make sure to plan for winding, mountainous roads for the last hour or two of your drive (depending on which direction you're coming from).
- We are located close to the Green Bank Observatory which limits cell service in the area. We definitely recommend having your directions downloaded prior to hitting the road, especially if you're unfamiliar with the area. Once you arrive, we do have wi-fi in the Village and in employee housing so even if you do not have cell service you can always rely on wi-fi calling.
- We recommend stocking up on groceries before you get here. We do have a small on-mountain market for your basic needs, but definitely recommend getting groceries for a few weeks before you arrive. The closest grocery store is 45 minutes south and the closest Walmart is about an hour and 15 minutes north.

Winter: Snowshoe is located atop a mountain at an elevation of 4,848'. It gets cold with our average lows in the teens and average highs in the low 30's. If you are joining us for winter, we recommend making sure to pack all the essentials for a cold winter - hat, gloves, scarf, winter boots/snow boots, winter coat, warm socks, and layers to keep warm.

Summer: Summer at Snowshoe is delightful, we rarely see temperatures above 80F so pack for warm days and cool nights.
