Becoming a mountain host requires submitting an application to the volunteer supervisor and participating in an orientation session (in-person or virtual) before assuming mountain host responsibilities. Mountain Hosts must be 16 years+ in age.

Mountain Host responsibilities include both on and off snow duties, as well as assisting with guest services and performing some or all of the following functions:
  • Guest Assistance
    • Provide directions and resort information to guests
    • Provide guests with safety information as needed
    • Assist with events, both on and off-snow (but not on skis or snowboard)
    • Direct guests to terrain appropriate for their skill level
    • Direct guests to appropriate rental, retail, ski school locations, etc.
    • Direct guests to different parts of the mountain
  • Assist Ski Patrol
    • Assist with crowd control and scene safety during a guest incident
    • Escort family or witnesses of an incident to patrol for sworn statements, as needed
    • Assist with crowd control and guest information in instances of delayed lift openings
    • Assist with lift evacuation as necessary after evacuation training

  • Assist Lift Operations
    • Perform crowd control
    • Direct guests at top and bottom of lifts as needed during peak usage periods
    • Maintain a clear unloading zone at the top of lifts

  • Event Assistance
    • Assist with crowd control, games, and various event related duties during on and off snow events

Additional hours beyond commitment will earn additional perks.

Safety Patrol requires a minimum of 150 hours of prior mountain host experience, a safety patrol training course, and minimum age of 16 to volunteer. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDe Assistance with Guest services AND performing the following functions:


  • Assist Ski Patrol
    • Assist with opening and closing of slopes
    • Identify and replace missing safety signage
    • Identify and report potential hazard areas
    • Enforce skier/rider safety
    • Respond and assist with incidents or traffic congestion on any slope
    • Safely transport guest skis/snowboard
    • Monitor the radio and respond quickly
    • Assist with repacking sleds
    • Return rental equipment
    • Assist with crowd control and scene safety during a guest incident
    • Escort family or witnesses of an incident to patrol for sworn statements, as needed
    • Assist with crowd control and guest information in instances of delayed lift openings
    • Assist with lift evacuation as necessary after evacuation training
  • Event Assistance
    • Assist with crowd control, games, and various event related duties during on and off snow events
  • Assist Lift Operations
